Queensland mum learns she is a millionaire from Facebook post

A Queensland mum has revealed a routine Facebook scroll led to a discovery that will change her family’s life forever – a forgotten Lotto ticket worth $1.6 million.

The Loganholme local and her husband had no idea they were division one winners until they saw a social media post announcing a winning ticket had been sold in their area.

Moments later, they checked their ticket and realised they were the mystery winners of Saturday Gold Lotto’s $1,618,088.73 prize.

The couple held one of four division one winning entries nationally in Saturday night’s draw, but because the ticket was not registered to The Lott Members Club, officials had no way of contacting them.

“We’re in so much shock ... we’re still trying to process it all,” the woman said.

“The newsagency that we purchased the ticket from had posted on their Facebook page that they sold a division one winning entry over the weekend, and it reminded me that we purchased a ticket.

“I checked the ticket immediately, and it was a big shock.”

The winning 25-game QuickPick was purchased at IGA Loganholme on Ascot Drive.

The woman said the windfall would help the family buy a home and set money aside for their children.

“There’s so much that we’d like to do ... there will be some celebrations for sure,” she said.

IGA Loganholme owner Darrell Dhnaram said the win was the first division one prize sold by the outlet.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have sold our first division one winning entry here at IGA Loganholme,” he said.

“It’s incredibly exciting for our team to know one of our customers has had such a life-changing win.”

Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4683 was drawn on June 6, with winning numbers 10, 31, 44, 30, 43 and 25. The supplementary numbers were 4 and 38.

Four division one winning entries were recorded across Australia, including two in Victoria, one in Queensland and one in South Australia.
