Man arrested on balcony after 10-hour siege locks down housing complex

A man has been arrested following a 10-hour-long siege on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

It is understood the man called police to the property in Sippy Downs himself just before 11pm yesterday.

Police said the man was allegedly making threats while armed with a weapon.

Residents in the residential complex where the standoff took place were told to stay inside and lock their doors.

The street was filled with dozens of police, specialist officers and the dog squad.

Footage captured the moment he was arrested on his balcony about 10am today.

"Negotiators were called in - as well as the Public Safety Response team," Senior Sergeant Brad Doolan said.

"The man was visibly agitated, making threats in full view of officers before he was eventually taken into custody around 10am."

The man remains in the Sunshine Coast University Hospital under Police guard this afternoon, where he has undergone a medical assessment.
