Queensland drivers ignoring school limits

Queensland's peak motoring body has reminded motorists to stay educated on the road as students return to school.

Almost one in five drivers have admitted to ignoring restricted speed limits, including those in school zones.

A Suncorp Insurance survey, which canvassed more than 4000 motorists nationally, found 18 per cent of Queensland drivers didn't pay attention to the reduced speed limits.

More than 39 per cent said they generally exceeded the legal speed by more than 10 kilometres.

The RACQ has been quick to remind motorists that 40 km/h limits will be enforced around schools from 7-9am and 2-4pm.

"We'll have a lot of preps and grade one children who are turning up for the first time, so it's a new experience for them around with all those cars," RACQ spokeswoman Lauren Ritchie said.

Queensland state school students return on Wednesday, with some private and catholic schools beginning later in the week.
