Queensland bus driver and passenger lucky to escape fire uninjured

A Gold Coast bus driver and his passenger have been lucky to escape moments before the bus they were travelling in burst into flames.

The bus was in service in Elanora when the fire broke out.

Amateur vision obtained by 9NEWS shows plumes of black smoke billowing from the bus as the flames took over.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Station Officer Michael Pignolet said the fire rapidly spread when the bus pulled over to the side of the road.

"It looks like something underneath the bus has caused the grass to catch on fire," he said.

"The fire grew and eventually the bus caught on fire."

No one was injured by the fire, however the bus has been completely destroyed.
