Queensland bikie trial could be split up

The prosecution of alleged bikies involved in a Gold Coast brawl could be split into separate trials.

Twenty-seven men, alleged members of the Bandidos gang, are charged with rioting over the incident at Broadbeach in September 2013.

At a brief mention at Southport Magistrates Court on Friday, prosecutors said they aimed to break up the trial to make it more manageable.

Police had previously fought to have all the accused in a joint trial to save costs, but the Director of Public Prosecutions says that would be oppressive.

The matter has been adjourned until March 6.
