Queensland mother to face court over Cairns massacre

A far north Queensland woman who allegedly murdered eight children in a Cairns home will have her matter mentioned in court today.

Raina Mersane Ina Thaiday, 37, was charged with eight counts of murder after the four girls and four boys, aged between two and 14 years, were found dead in their home on Murray Street, Manoora, in December.

Ms Thaiday is unlikely to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today, however the hearing is expected to involve legal discussion to make a decision about whether the matter will proceed through the Mental Health Court.
