Qld woman in court over car crash death

A Gold Coast woman charged over a fiery car crash which killed her younger sister has faced court.

Candice Lee Chmieluk, 30, appeared at Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while adversely affected and driving under the influence of liquor.

Police allege Chmieluk was behind the wheel when the car lost control and smashed into a traffic light pole at Palm Beach in May last year.

The vehicle was split in two by the force of the collision and burst into flames.

Chmieluk's 24-year-old sister Sammy-Jo died in the crash.

Police charged Chmieluk last month following an investigation into the crash.

The matter has been adjourned until July 26.
