Qld treasurer trying to trick voters: LNP

Queensland's treasurer is trying to trick people into thinking debt is being reduced, the opposition says.

Shadow treasurer John-Paul Langbroek says the state's net debt is still creeping towards the $80 billion mark by 2018-19, showing Labor has no idea how to manage the state's finances.

He accused Treasurer Curtis Pitt of trying to trick Queenslanders about the state's overall financial position.

"Curtis Pitt is literally speaking in tongues, the tongues of Treasury," Mr Langbroek said.

He was also concerned about the government's debt action plan, which includes shifting more debt onto the books of state-owned firms and merging state power networks Ergon and Energex.

"Curtis Pitt is just desperately trying to pull money out of a hat, that's why we've got these tricky cash-grabs going on," Mr Langbroek added.

"Loading up the government-owned corporations with more debt, taking 100 per cent dividends, that makes it very difficult for them to invest in income-producing streams."
