Qld treasurer hints at CBD split over jobs

Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt is threatening to stop using the Commonwealth Bank for government business if it doesn't reconsider plans to sack 150 staff in Brisbane.

The major bank announced it was cutting the positions from its home loan processing department in June, with teams in Sydney and Perth to absorb the workload.

Mr Pitt said the decision was disappointing, especially after CBA posted a record $9.9 billion profit.

"This flies in the face of Queensland Labor's positive jobs agenda and, frankly, has the potential to damage the bank's relationship with government," he told state parliament on Wednesday.

"I have written to CEO Ian Narev to express my sincere disappointment and urge him to reconsider this action."

CBA's contract with the Queensland government is due to expire on June 30, 2019.
