Qld teen aviator to restart record attempt

Teen aviator Lachlan Smart will resume his quest to become the youngest person to fly solo around the world when he departs London on Saturday.

The 18-year-old, who began his on July 4, is piloting a Cirrus SR22 single-engine aircraft and he has spent almost two weeks relaxing, visiting friends and sightseeing in London while his aircraft has undergone a major service.

His next stop - his 13th overall - is Cannes, France where he will spend two nights.

He is expected to touchdown again on Sunshine Coast, to complete his 45,000km journey, on August 27.

If successful he will become the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe solo in a single-engine aircraft.

The record is held by American Matt Guthmiller, from South Dakota, who was 19 years, seven months and 15 days, when he completed his six-week journey of more than 46,600km in 2014.
