Queensland's lifesavers came to the rescue of more than 200 beachgoers this Easter and the vast majority were swimming outside the flags.

Surf Life Saving Queensland said 236 people, including more than 50 children younger that 14, were rescued over the long weekend.

But 80 per cent were not swimming in the designated part of the beach, with SLSQ operations co-ordinator Jason Argent stressing the importance of parental supervision given the ocean can be "a dangerous and unpredictable place".
