Qld school staffer on child abuse charges

A staff member at prominent boy's college in Brisbane has been charged with the indecent treatment of a number of children.

The staffer is in police custody, charged with four offences allegedly committed earlier this year.

The principal wrote to parents on Monday to say the school wasn't aware of the allegations until police informed them on Friday.

The principal said the detectives asked for, and immediately received, full co-operation from the school.

"The staff member will be stood down immediately," the principal wrote in the letter obtained by AAP.

"The college is devastated by this matter and is doing everything possible to support the alleged victims and their families."

The principal informed each year level separately on Monday and additional counselling is being offered.
