Qld's economic growth quickens: treasurer
New figures show economic growth in Queensland has accelerated quicker than the rest of the country, the treasurer says.
Curtis Pitt said the Queensland State Accounts' September quarter figures, to be released on Tuesday, show economic growth in Queensland accelerated to 2.6 per cent for the year, while national growth was 2.3 per cent during the same period.
"On both a quarterly and an annual basis, Queensland's growth is higher than the rest of Australia," Mr Pitt told parliament.
Shadow Treasurer John-Paul Langbroek said Mr Pitt had previously used the same figures to last year argue the state was in a recession.
"Every authority last year said ... the Queensland Treasury statistics are often used by the treasurer to promote their political position," Mr Langbroek said, arguing the Australian Bureau of Statistics figures were the benchmark.
Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg also hit out at Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk for removing directions in Mr Pitt's ministerial charter letter to balance the budget, saying it was revised "to match his incompetence".
"We have a government that is frozen at the wheel," Mr Springborg said.
However, Mr Pitt responded by saying the budget papers indicated the government was on track for a $1.2 billion surplus for the 2015/16 financial year.
