Qld rail passengers feel unsafe at night

More than half the passengers on Brisbane's trains feel unsafe when travelling at night, a survey has found.

The Canstar Blue survey found only 43 per cent of passengers reported feeling safe when travelling at night, down from 57 per cent in last year's survey.

There were also increased calls for extra police and security staff on trains, but complaints of delays have dropped from 33 per cent to 26 per cent.

Despite the increased concerns over night-time travel, Queensland Rail was still rated five stars for overall safety.

Queensland Rail defended their service and said they had increased the number of railway police by 10 per cent in the past year and also upped the number of CCTV cameras.

"Police figures show serious offences on the network are decreasing and remain less frequent than in the broader community," QR said in a statement.
