Qld premier to join Walk for Daniel

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will be one of several key dignitaries attending the 11th annual Walk for Daniel event on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

The event, to be held on the annual Day for Daniel on Friday, remembers slain school boy Daniel Morcombe.

The 13-year-old was abducted from the Kiel Mountain Road overpass in December 2003 while on his way to buy Christmas presents and was later murdered by serial paedophile Brett Peter Cowan.

The walk follows the same path Daniel walked to arrive at the bus stop Cowan abducted him from.

Also joining Ms Palaszczuk on the march will be several Sunshine Coast MPs, Senator Claire Moore, Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson and Channel 7 news presenter Kay McGrath.

The Day for Daniel aims to educate children about their safety and protection initiatives, with more than one million young Australians expected to take part.

"Day for Daniel is about schools, businesses, community groups and families joining as one to teach our kids about being safe," Daniel's mother and child safety advocate Denise Morcombe said.

"The Foundation has assisted children impacted by domestic violence, physical abuse and neglect for more than a decade."

Cowan is serving a life imprisonment term with a 20-year non-parole period after being convicted of Daniel's murder last year.
