Qld premier fights on in Struggle St feud

Queensland's premier will confront television producers who want to bring their cameras into her electorate to shoot a series described as "poverty porn".

Annastacia Palaszczuk has already publicly declared SBS isn't welcome to film Struggle Street in the southwest Brisbane suburb of Inala - the premier's state electorate.

The first instalment of the controversial series examined poverty, drug use, crime and social issues in Sydney's Mount Druitt in 2015.

The documentary triggered protests and was dismissed as "poverty porn" by some critics.

"My office has been speaking with the SBS producers and I will be following it up with a letter and a conversation with them," Ms Palaszczuk said on Thursday.

The premier said her constituents have been backing her stance since it emerged producers wanted to film Struggle Street in Inala.

"We're a very proud community," she said.

"I was out there this morning and my phone was running hot from people expressing their disgust at what SBS wanted to do.

"Perhaps SBS needs to have a reality check itself."

Ms Palaszczuk revealed on Thursday the state government had rejected a funding request from SBS for the series.

It came after Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said an application to film on council land in Inala had also been knocked back.

SBS's attempt to film in the west Melbourne suburb of Sunshine has been shot down by Brimbank City Council, which fears the broadcaster won't give an accurate presentation of the area.

SBS insisted the series would represent communities and residents fairly.

"We anticipate stories of resilience, community support and family love in what will be compelling and insightful storytelling that doesn't shy away from the realities of hardship faced by millions of people," it said this week.
