Qld premier defends small cabinet

Queensland's premier claims her 14 ministers can effectively run the state because Labor was an effective opposition with just seven MPs.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has copped criticism of the small size of her cabinet, which followed an election promise to trim the number of ministers to save money.

Labor has 14 ministers compared to 19 ministers and 12 assistant ministers under the previous Liberal National Party government.

Some Labor ministers are juggling up to five unrelated portfolios.

But Ms Palaszczuk brushed off questions about the size of her cabinet on Thursday, pointing to her experience of working with smaller teams.

"I think everyone's forgetting here we came from an opposition of seven - seven members who worked extremely hard," she said.

"We now have a ministry of 14, a lot more than the seven."

Education, Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones denied being overwhelmed by her huge workload.

She sidestepped a question about whether she would prefer to be responsible for fewer portfolios.

"I'm happy to serve the premier in any capacity and anything that is asked of me," Ms Jones said.

The premier said she was satisfied with the performance of her ministers.

But Ms Palaszczuk added she would review her cabinet at the end of the year.
