Qld premier axes top bureaucrat bonuses

The Queensland government has axed a bonus system for senior public servants introduced by its predecessor that resulted in more than $640,000 being paid out.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the Liberal National Party government introduced a policy that allowed directors-general to qualify for bonuses of up to 15 per cent.

"I greatly value the leadership and expertise our directors-general bring to the public service, but I also think our most senior public servants are paid well-enough that they don't need generous bonuses on top of their salary," Ms Palaszczuk said.

She made the announcement after appointing Dave Stewart as the Department of Premier and Cabinet's director-general and Jim Murphy as under-treasurer.
