Qld premier 'appalled' by QR European trip

Queensland's premier says it's "appalling" two Queensland Rail executives took a business trip to Europe just before Brisbane's train timetable debacle.

Commuter services were plunged into chaos last month when the new Redcliffe Peninsula line opened and there weren't enough drivers to staff it.

It has emerged former Queensland Rail CEO Helen Gluer and executive Kevin Wright went on a business trip to Europe in the weeks before the crisis hit.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Sunday slammed the rail operator for allowing the pair to go on the trip.

"When you have the rollout of a major timetable, you would expect your top-level senior executives to be all hands on deck," she said.

"I think everyone should be appalled at the fact that at a time when Queensland Rail was due to be rolling out a new timetable that senior executives were not focused on the job", she said on Sunday.

While Ms Gluer resigned over the failures, Mr Wright has kept his job at Queensland Rail.

Commissioner Phillip Strachan is investigating the train crew shortage, which forced the introduction of an interim timetable with far fewer services.
