Qld parliament has fractious start to year

Queensland's hung parliament will wrap up its first week of the year on Thursday, with an increasingly influential cross bench continuing to threaten the minority Labor government.

New One Nation MP and LNP defector Steve Dickson, one of five crossbenchers, has vowed to to bring down the minority Palaszczuk government if its June budget doesn't include a funding boost for regional Queensland.

Mr Dickson said crossbench MPs, including four from north Queensland, could unite against the government if it was unhappy with the budget and force an election, which is due by early 2018.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has this week unveiled new retail trading hours and a plan to deal with the effects of the drug ice.

But it has also had to weather opposition attacks on its reliance on consultation, with the LNP slamming the proposed series of summits to discuss the ice plan as "talkfests".

The LNP has also introduced its own legislation to tackle domestic violence.
