Qld paramedic 'kicked in back, spat on'

A Cairns paramedic has been kicked in the back and spat on while attempting to provide medical help to a woman, police say.

It's alleged the male paramedic was kicked in the back by a man before the woman, who had been put on a stretcher, spat at him on Monday.

Both the man and woman, aged 47 and 46, are due to face Cairns Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with serious assault of a public officer.

The woman is also facing a drug possession charge stemming from a search at the Cairns watchhouse.
