Qld officer to fight misconduct charges

A Queensland detective who allegedly accessed the police database on behalf of a friend intends to fight misconduct charges.

Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen John Thiry, 48, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday charged with two counts of misconduct in public office.

"He has denied the allegations since they were first raised and will be contesting them in court with a plea of not guilty," Queensland Police Union lawyer Calvin Gnech told reporters.

It's alleged Thiry logged onto Queensland Police's QPrime database twice in order to pass restricted information to a friend.

The Brisbane-based detective was first interviewed about the matter about 18 months ago, but the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) only recently pressed charges.

He has been suspended with pay and is due to face court again on October 12.
