Qld minister apologises for gesture

A Queensland government minister has apologised for making a "throat-slitting" gesture at an Opposition MP in parliament, insisting she was only trying to get her to be quiet.

Mount Ommaney MP Tarnya Smith has asked Speaker Peter Wellington to investigate Police Minister Jo-Ann Miller, accusing her of making a "throat-slitting motion" across the chamber to her on Tuesday and saying: "You're a goner."

"During a robust debate I gestured and requested the member for Mount Ommaney to silence her repeated interjections, nothing more," Ms Miller told parliament on Wednesday night.

"If the member for Mount Ommaney misunderstood the gesture and the words I used and has taken offence, I regret any distress this may have caused."
