A meatworks employee found dead on the banks of a central Queensland creek was "brutally" decapitated by his co-worker, police allege.

Syeid Alam's remains were discovered near the creek running off Rockhampton's Fitzroy River on April 16.

The 33-year-old's co-worker, Mohammed Khan, was remanded in custody on Tuesday after being charged with his murder.

Detective Inspector Darrin Shadlow described Mr Alam's death as one of the worst he'd seen in the region.

"The victim was decapitated ... quite brutally," he said.

The pair, described by police as "close associates", worked together at the local meatworks.

Mr Alam was last seen on April 5 by his wife, who reported him missing the next day.

His body was found 10 days later.

Khan, 34, appeared in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court charged with murder and interfering with a corpse.

His case was adjourned to June 29.
