Qld mayor death to alter election

The Queensland government is still working out what to do with the ballot in the upcoming Lockyer Valley election following the death of popular mayor Steve Jones.

Mr Jones' family made the decision to turn off life support on Friday after the 55-year-old suffered a stroke during a meeting with fellow southeast Queensland mayors on Thursday.

"I'll be making a statement to the House tomorrow morning in relation to the conduct of the ballot in the Lockyer Valley," Local Government Minister Jackie Trad said on Monday.

"We are still finalising some of the details that require a bit of assessment before I can make that statement."

Mr Jones had nominated to run in the March 19 poll.
