A man armed with a rifle has been admitted to hospital after a stand-off with police and a pursuit through bushland in southeast Queensland.

Police were called to a Crossdale house, in the Brisbane Valley region, about 8.30am on Tuesday, where they encountered an armed man.

He reportedly pointed the rifle at officers before fleeing.

"When we got there we saw him running away," a police spokeswoman said.

The 30-year-old was found about 6pm with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition, police said.

No one else was injured.
