Qld man gave 'evil laugh' before stabbing

A Brisbane drug dealer accused of murder laughed at the jealous lover of a woman he'd had sex with before fatally stabbing the man, a court has heard.

Darren James Lawler, 37, allegedly stabbed Paul Shannon Andrews three times in the stomach during a fight outside Lawler's home in Mango Hill on July 27, 2018.

Drunk and jealous, Mr Andrews, 42, had hidden in bushes in front of Lawler's home because he suspected his partner, Tiffany Rose Baker, was inside, and having an affair with Lawler.

His suspicions were well founded.

Ms Baker had been having sex with Lawler, and she was inside.

But on the night her partner was killed, it wasn't more love she had gone to score but methamphetamine, she told Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

When she later stepped out the front door with Lawler and his girlfriend, a very drunk Mr Andrews jumped out of the bushes.

"He said 'un-f***ing-fortunate c***, what's my missus doing here?'" Ms Baker told the court.

She remembers Mr Andrews running at Lawler with an Absolut vodka bottle in one hand and a torch in the other.

Lawler was knocked to the ground by a blow to head with the torch but quickly got up and began wrestling with Mr Andrews, she said.

Despite bleeding profusely from his head, Lawler got on top in the scuffle and put Mr Andrews in a headlock.

"I was kicking Darren (Lawler) in the ribs and trying to get him off," Ms Baker said.

"He said 'I will f***ing stab you c***' and with a real evil laugh."

Ms Baker never spotted the knife in Lawler's hand, she said.

But Lawler's girlfriend, Ashley Dinta, did.

"I seen the knife get slid on the ground (sic). Tiffany (Baker) grabbed it ... Darren (had dropped it)," she said.

Lawler then ran back inside the home screaming "lock the door", Ms Dinta said.

Dazed and standing in the dark with the bloody knife in her hand, Ms Baker didn't initially realise Mr Andrews was bleeding to death.

"He said 'Tiff, I need help, I have been stabbed'," she said.

"I thought he was talking s*** and I said 'hang on'."

Neighbour Kimberley Simmonds had already called triple-zero, after the men's yelling had interrupted her television program.

"The deceased was making horrific screaming noises," she told the court.

Emergency services were unable to revive Mr Andrews.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lawler has been committed to stand trial in the Brisbane Supreme Court for murder.
