Qld man in court over brutal 2009 murder

A man has faced court over the brutal killing of a Townsville butcher seven years ago.

Gary Maurice Guymore, 43, is charged with murdering Edward "Ted" Kearines, also a truck driver, at a boarding house in the regional centre in December 2009.

Guymore's arrest came after a $250,000 reward was offered earlier this month for information to solve what police described as a "very violent attack".

He was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The case returns to court on February 21.
