Qld man hit with hammer, stabbed

A man will face a north Queensland court after allegedly hitting another man with a hammer and stabbing him in the chest.

Police say a 24-year-old man was out with friends in Cairns on Monday when he attacked a 20-year-old man about 8.15pm (AEST).

His victim ran from the scene and collapsed nearby before being taken to Cairns Hospital with serious injuries.

Police arrested the 24-year-old at a nearby bus stop, and he will face court on Tuesday.
