Qld man charged with arson and assault

A man has been charged after a woman was punched and a fire was lit inside a house in remote northwest Queensland.

Police were called after reports of a disturbance at the home on Burke St, Doomadgee, about 2pm on Sunday.

Officers say a man, 20, was involved in a fight with a 19-year-old woman before he allegedly set fire to property inside the home.

The woman suffered minor facial injuries and was taken to hospital.

Four other people at the home were also treated for smoke inhalation after the fire.

The man has been charged with one count each of arson, assault occasioning bodily harm and contravention of a domestic violence order. He is due to appear in the Doomadgee Magistrates Court on September 9.
