Qld man charged over 70km road mayhem

Motorists have had to swerve to avoid a crazed man accused of driving while drunk on the wrong side of several major Queensland roads, including the Pacific Motorway.

Police finally ended the man's dangerous, high-speed jaunt, but not before he'd travelled 70km from Springwood, south of Brisbane, to Caboolture, north of the city late on Tuesday night.

It's alleged he was drunk at the time, and at times had his lights off while travelling into oncoming traffic, including on the Pacific Motorway and on the Gateway Arterial Road.

Police deployed devices to rupture the vehicles tyres and the man was arrested at Caboolture.

The 28-year-old man is facing charges including dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, unlawful possession of suspected stolen property and driving without a licence.

He is due to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
