Qld Labor MP mulls exit for council run

A Labor backbencher is reportedly considering leaving Queensland parliament to run for Ipswich mayor.

Jo-Ann Miller was elected by Bundamba voters in 2000, and is said to be thinking over a tilt for mayor in the local government poll in March.

She is yet to confirm whether or not she will run.

It would trigger a by-election just months out from a state poll, but Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says it is all just media speculation.

The premier said she had not spoken to her former police minister about her plans

"She's a member of our team," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"I'd like her to remain but if she chooses to go that's her decision."

Meanwhile, Gold Coast Liberal National Party MP Jann Stuckey announced she'd be leaving behind her 16-year political career on February 1.

In announcing her resignation, Ms Stuckey revealed her personal struggle with depression, and made pointed remarks about bullying, insults and personal attacks.
