Unions won't control hospitals: Qld govt

Queensland's government has denied there are plans to hand control over hospitals to unions, despite opposition claims.

Health Minister Cameron Dick insists opposition health spokesman Mark McArdle's unsubstantiated claim that boards will be stacked with union representatives in place of doctors is false.

He says existing laws determine who can be appointed to hospital boards, not politics.

"The membership and conduct of boards are non-political and it is disappointing that Mr McArdle is seeking to politicise board appointment processes," Mr Dick told AAP.

Earlier, Mr McArdle also alleged numerous health staff across the state told him they feared Labor planned to install unions as the main governing body of hospitals with boards to be made "partners" in the running of facilities.

"This revelation will cause outrage in Queensland communities and is nothing more than a blatant political move threatening the integrity and independence of the boards," he said.
