Qld group face dog, owner assault charges

A dog is in an animal hospital with head injuries after five people allegedly broke into his owner's home in southeast Queensland and assaulted them.

Police say the group forced open the front door of a Churchill home in Ipswich on Tuesday morning.

They then allegedly assaulted the woman and her male kelpie dog, before taking off with a mobile phone.

The dog was taken to the RSPCA Animal Hospital at Wacol, while his owner was taken to Ipswich General Hospital with minor injuries.

Three women - aged 31, 32 and 33 - from Redbank Plains, a Durack man, 34, and a 32-year-old man from Raceview were arrested by police a short time later.

They were charged with entering a dwelling, assault occasioning bodily harm, wilful damage, stealing and animal cruelty, and are expected to face Ipswich Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Police confirmed the alleged victim was known to the perpetrators.
