Qld group charged over guns, drugs, python

A tip-off from the public has led to the arrest of eight people over a stash of stolen guns, ammunition, drugs and a python on Queensland's Darling Downs.

The group was arrested after a series of raids across the Toowoomba region this week.

Police will allege they found 50 grams of cannabis, 20 grams of methamphetamine, chemicals, scales, MDMA tablets and the reptile across a number of properties.

Acting Senior Sergeant Michael Loveday said "ever vigilant" members of the public had helped police with timely and accurate information.

"These intelligence-driven tactical actions were undertaken to identify and reduce drug and weapons crime and the indirect results of such unlawful community-wide acts," he said.

"I urge community members to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously to report any criminal and drug behaviour so we can continue to target these offenders."

Police could not provide details about the age or genders of the defendants.

The group will appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court next month on a range of offences including drug and weapon possession, receiving stolen firearms, possessing explosives and the unlawful possession of a native python.
