Qld govt mulls action on Nuttall super

THREE QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENTS HAVE WRESTLED WITH THE PROBLEM OF GORDON NUTTALL'S SUPERANNUATION.

WHO IS GORDON NUTTALL?

Gordon Nuttall is a former Labor government minister who was jailed for corruption in 2009. He was released on parole this week after serving six years behind bars.

HIS PLUSH NEST EGG

Nuttall's super fund is believed to contain between $680,000 and $1.2 million, which includes extra contributions made by the state (funded by taxpayers).

WHAT CAN BE DONE NOW?

The government is considering its options to recoup what it can.

WHY WASN'T ACTION TAKEN EARLIER?

Health Minister Cameron Dick, attorney-general in the dying days of the Bligh government, claims the 2012 election was called before they could act.

Former treasurer Tim Nicholls sought advice from Treasury on Nuttall's super while the LNP were in office, but claims he doesn't "recall" seeing it.

WHO'S TALKING ABOUT IT?

Treasurer Curtis Pitt - "We are very keen to ensure of course that if we can recoup any money, we will."

Health Minister Cameron Dick - "Tim Nicholls did nothing, I don't think that's good enough."

Former premier Peter Beattie - "I'm just flabbergasted at the incompetence of both the Newman and Bligh governments. It's outrageous and unacceptable and they should just fix the bloody thing."

Former deputy premier Jim Elder - "You don't need to pursue someone to the grave."
