Qld govt machinery will halt: Springborg

The machinery of Queensland's government will come to a halt under Labor, the state opposition says.

Liberal National Party Leader Lawrence Springborg says the inexperience of Labor MPs given ministries by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk means challenging times are ahead.

He says cutting the number of ministries from 19 to 14 and creating "super-sized" departments will cause problems.

"We'll basically see the machinery of government virtually grind to a halt," Mr Springborg said.

"These are quite big portfolios and you will find that many ministries will actually struggle and be overwhelmed by them."

The opposition leader said the LNP would discuss how it would compose its shadow ministry at a party room meeting on Tuesday.

He also predicted that Labor would enjoy an initial "purple patch" because the former LNP government had left the departments running exceptionally well.

Labor "at their most incompetent" would find it difficult to destroy health, education or "wind back the clock on law and order" immediately, he said.

But he warned that even ministers with previous ministerial or shadow ministry experience, like Kate Jones and Jo-Ann Miller, would not have the continuity of working on the same portfolio.

"You'll have ministers that will spend an inordinate amount of time just familiarising themselves with the details of their portfolios before they can actually run their departments," he said.

Mr Springborg said the LNP was still considering a legal challenge of the result in the Labor-held seat of Ferny Grove, where a Palmer United Party candidate was disqualified for being an undeclared bankrupt.

In the meantime the minority Labor government would face a range of challenges, he said.

But he didn't rule out a bipartisan approach on some issues.

"We will hope there is an opportunity, given the fact that Queenslanders clearly voted for a minority government to do things differently in the parliament," he said.

The Queensland parliament isn't due to convene until March.
