The Queensland government has denied it ignored a key group of Aurukun elders in making decisions about the future of the school at the troubled Cape York community.

The Wik Women's Group has complained it was not consulted by the education department in its review of the Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy which is due to reopen on Monday.

Aboriginal Affairs Minister Curtis Pitt says the government did reach out to the Wik Women's Group, as it did to other local community groups, before this week overhauling the school's structure but the approach was not taken up.
