Qld drivers fined for doing speed limit

Police have apologised after two motorists were fined for sticking to the speed limit on a Queensland motorway.

Queensland Police were left red-faced after one of the drivers posted his infringement notice on social media.

Zac Murray was surprised to receive the $151 fine, which claimed he had exceeded the speed limit by less than 13km/h while driving at 100km/h in a 100km/h speed zone on the motorway at Mooloolaba on May 14.

The bizarre allegation was far from fine for Mr Murray, who joked on Facebook that he'd been caught red-handed abiding the road rules.

"I've never received a speeding fine before. Can someone please clarify if I just got one for going the speed limit?" Mr Murray wrote.

"I'm fairly certain I've been caught red handed being a law abiding citizen."

The photo of Mr Murray's unusual speeding fine has gone viral on Facebook, with many saying the young man would be silly to cop the penalty.

Police say an "administrative error", not a speed camera accuracy issue, was to blame for Mr Murray's fine and another infringement issued on the motorway that day.

"The analogue camera recorded the details of two vehicles travelling at the legal speed limit while it was being tested by the operator," police said in a statement.

"An error occurred during the manual adjudication processes where these records were not identified and rejected as per standard practice."

The notices were withdrawn and police have made direct contact with the motorists to apologise for the error, Queensland Police said.
