Two Queensland men have appeared in court charged with wasting police resources over a fake corpse prank.

Timothy John Buckland and Christopher Frank Matecki are accused of making a false representation by conduct resulting in a police investigation.

The charges follow their alleged attempt to prank an Uber driver by loading a fake dead body into the boot of a car at Sherwood, in Brisbane's western suburbs, on July 31.

The prank caused the driver to flee and police to set up a crime scene at an apartment complex, where what appeared to be blood was found at the scene.

Investigators determined it to be an elaborate hoax which the alleged perpetrators were filming for a YouTube video.

Buckland and Matecki both briefly appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

Neither entered a plea and both were allowed to remain at large until their next court mention on January 14.
