Qld croc handler recovers after attack

A female wildlife handler who was attacked by a crocodile at a north Queensland wildlife sanctuary is expected make a full recovery.

Renee Robertson, 25, was backed into a corner by the 2.5-metre reptile in an enclosure at Billabong Sanctuary in Townsville on Monday.

Video shot by a visitor at the park shows the croc latching onto Ms Robertson's arm as she screams in pain.

Another ranger can be seen hitting the animal on the head with a stick to try and make it let go.

Ms Robertson was rushed to hospital suffering serious arm injuries.

However, Billabong Sanctuary owner Bob Flemming said she was expected to make a full recovery after undergoing surgery.

"There was no nerve damage, so that was the best news we could have had," he told ABC radio.

"We're very, very fortunate that she's going to fully recover."

A Townsville Hospital spokeswoman said Ms Robertson was in a stable condition on Tuesday morning.

Eight people who witnessed the attack were treated for shock.

The attack will be investigated by the sanctuary, as well as Workplace Health and Safety officers.

The crocodile, named Tipper, won't be euthanised.
