Queensland's local government minister says voters will decide whether a councillor accused of accessing pornography on his work computer will retain his job.

Redland City Councillor Craig Ogilvie is being investigated after he admitted last year to signing up with notorious cheater website Ashley Madison using his council email account.

The investigation has so far uncovered hundreds of pornographic images, several videos and images of him engaged in sex acts, The Sunday Mail reports.

The newspaper, which obtained investigation documents, says his ratepayer-funded phone and laptop also allegedly contained photos of young women at the beach, seemingly without their knowledge.

Local Government Minister Jackie Trad, also the state's deputy premier, said she didn't want to comment on the allegations against Mr Ogilvie while the investigation, by the Department of Local Government, was underway.

"I'm not going to be judging this issue," Ms Trad said on Sunday.

"Ultimately, it is up to the people of Redlands to make their decision about their local representative."

Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg said Mr Ogilvie was welcome to contest the March 19 election if there was nothing disqualifying him from doing so, but he agreed the allegations might not sit well with voters.

"It indicates and behoves everyone in public office to make sure that they always conduct themselves in the highest-possible standard," Mr Springborg said.
