Qld councillor charged with corruption

A Queensland councillor charged with official corruption has defended himself in an online video, telling his community not everyone understands how councils operate.

Adrian Raedel, 42, is accused of corruptly receiving benefits which include money, pre-paid travel, accommodation and advertising.

The Crime and Corruption Commission says Raedel, who represents the council north of Brisbane, was charged at the Fortitude Valley Police Station on Thursday.

He is expected to appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 17.

Raedel has defended himself in an online video, saying "for the time being defending myself is going to take everything".

"A huge thank you also needs to go to the tireless and dedicated Moreton Bay council staff that go above and beyond," Raedel says.

"Often in the face of criticism that comes from those who don't fully understand how operational aspects of a council are required to operate."
