A Queensland police liaison officer sacked for dangerous driving injured himself and a passenger in a car crash.

The 27-year-old, from the northern policing region, was dismissed on Wednesday over the 2012 single-vehicle crash.

A police spokeswoman said he had been working for the police service for five-and-a-half years.

"Injuries were caused to both him and his passenger," she told AAP.

She said criminal proceedings against the officer for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm were finalised in the Cairns District Court on August 4 last year.

However, police have refused to identify the officer or reveal what sentence he was given.

Police liaison officers are employed to establish and maintain a positive rapport between police and culturally-specific communities.
