Qld cop denies 'square up' claim

A Gold Coast police officer accused of using excessive force has denied telling a colleague he wanted to "square up" with an accuser who threatened to kill his family.

Senior Constable Aaron Minns, 29, has pleaded not guilty to four counts of common assault over a spate of alleged incidents between September 2014 and January 2015.

Minns and colleagues from the elite Rapid Action Patrol (RAP) squad twice raided the Gold Coast home of Jozef Gaber - a man they believed had links to the Bandidos - suspecting he was in possession of methylamphetamine.

The Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday heard Minns had feared Mr Gaber had a concealed gun on one occasion when he pulled the handcuffed man off the toilet in a bathroom of the Biggera Waters townhouse.

Asked by defence counsel Stephen Zillman if his treatment at all related to earlier information from colleagues Mr Gaber had threatened his family, Minns replied: "Absolutely not".

Earlier in the week, RAP squad Constable Sean Swain said in the days leading up to the second search Minns expressed a desire to "square up" with Mr Gaber because he was dissatisfied no action was taken over the threats.

But Minns denied making such claims as he gave evidence on Friday.

He also said he'd dragged the naked man off the toilet because he thought he may be flushing drugs.

The first occasion he'd searched Mr Gaber's property, Minns told the court he had pushed him onto the ground with "reasonable" force because the man was holding a lit blowtorch.

He also addressed a separate incident in which he went to knee a man who had been apprehended following a thwarted car chase on the Gold Coast.

The movement came "without thinking" after the man spat at him, Minns said.

"I just thought it was disgusting," he said.
