Queensland's corruption watchdog has charged a police officer over alleged dealings with a media outlet.

The Crime and Corruption Commission says a 50-year-old detective has been charged with two counts of misconduct in public office and one count of communicating or publishing protected information.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the CCC says it will allege the detective from the South Brisbane Police District asked a media outlet to help with "an unauthorised investigative strategy".

It is also alleged the officer released protected information relating to ongoing investigations.

The man from the suburb of Algester is expected to appear in the Brisbane District Court on December 6.

The CCC said it would not comment further.
