Qld cop basher jailed for five years

A man who was tasered and shot twice after he threw a Queensland police officer through a window has been sentenced to five years behind bars.

Morris Steven Mickelo was found guilty by a Brisbane District Court jury this week of assaulting Constable Reece Jarman, who had tried to handcuff the 32-year-old at his Capalaba townhouse in April 2014.

The court had heard Mickelo became increasingly aggressive as Senior Constable Samantha Schofield and her junior partner investigated reports of a domestic disturbance at his home.

Sen Const Schofield tasered Mickelo when he and her colleague started wrestling but it did not stop him.

Mickelo picked up Const Jarman and slammed him against the wall before throwing his head and shoulders through a nearby window, cutting his arm.

Fearing for her partner's life, Sen Const Schofield fired at Mickelo twice, striking him in the torso and hip.

"The window glass smashed everywhere... he was pushed through it with force," Sen Const Schofield said.

"He pulled him back out (and) that time I thought to myself 'He's going to kill him with this glass'.

"I started to see blood ... I was instantly concerned he was going to bleed to death."

Video captured by one of the officer's body cameras was shown to the jury during the trial.

The prosecutor had argued the police were acting within their powers to deal with a perceived threat.

Mickelo, who was convicted of serious assault and a malicious act with intent, will be eligible for parole in April 2019.
