Qld coal mine worker death probe underway

Operations at an open cut mine in central Queensland remain suspended as authorities investigate the death of a 55-year-old contractor, who was fatally injured while carrying out maintenance work.

The man died while working on a coal handling and preparation plant at Glencore's Newlands mine, near Glenden, on Tuesday morning.

Police, emergency services and the mines inspectorate are continuing investigations on Wednesday.
