Qld Catholic teachers stop work again

Teachers in most Queensland Catholic schools will stop work for two hours in the latest industrial action in their fight for better pay and conditions.

More than 7500 Independent Education Union members in more than 180 schools are authorised to stop work between 8.30am and 10.30am on Thursday.

Classes are scheduled during part of the stop-work period.

Branch secretary Terry Burke says it will be the fifth time the state's Catholic school employees have taken stop-work action as their employers continue to reject concerns about increasing workloads and inequitable wages.

"Our members are committed to providing a rich school experience, but they need adequate time to focus on their core role of educating their students," Mr Burke said in a statement.

He said Queensland teachers at the top automatic pay bracket received $84,279 a year - $6792 less than their NSW counterparts.

"Longstanding wage inequities also continue for employees despite comparable school funding and fees between NSW and Queensland Catholic schools," Mr Burke said.

Further negotiation between union members and employers will take place shortly after the stop work action.

The Queensland Catholic Education Commission said the union's continuing industrial action was unreasonable.

"This action is not justified in response to a bargaining process that continues to make progress and be conducted in good faith," executive director Dr Lee-Anne Perry said.

"It is not in anybody's best interests."
