Qld bushfire threatens homes in Dalrymple

A major bushfire is threatening homes in Dalrymple Heights in central Queensland, with residents told to flee or activate their survival plans.

The fire, which is moving in a southwesterly direction, has closed in on Dalrymple Road, near Snake Road and Chelmans Road. Firefighters were working to protect properties.

Residents were advised to leave eastwards via Mackay Eungella Road. Heavy smoke has reduced visibility and conditions are dangerous, the QFES said.

An evacuation centre has been set up at the Marian Town Hall.

Police in Dalrymple has earlier helped with evacuations and residents who had left were warned not to return.

Meanwhile, a bushfire in Finch Hatton was downgraded on Tuesday night with evacuated residents allowed to return to their homes.
